CPM calculator
CPM is what advertisers pay — not what you receive. Convert the auction price into your payout, then use the full rate tables and the six levers that move your number.
CPM → creator payout
What CPM measures — and what it doesn’t
CPM (“cost per mille”) is the advertiser’s price for 1,000 ad impressions on your videos, set in a live auction each time a monetized video loads for an eligible viewer. It measures one thing precisely: how much advertisers want your audience. It does not measure your income — two deductions sit between CPM and your bank: YouTube’s 45% share, and every view that showed no ad at all (blockers, unsold slots, ineligible viewers). That is why the converter above multiplies CPM by 0.55 and by an ad-fill rate, and why a $10-CPM channel typically banks $3–$4.50 per 1,000 views.
The two CPMs in your Studio
Studio reports CPM (per 1,000 individual ad impressions) and playback-based CPM (per 1,000 monetized playbacks — and one playback can contain several ads, so this figure runs higher). Both are advertiser-side prices. For income planning, skip both and use RPM — the RPM calculator computes it from your real revenue.
CPM by niche, 2026
Advertiser bidding sorted by topic, with the payout each band typically produces after the 55% share and normal ad fill.
| Niche | Typical CPM | Resulting RPM band | Who is bidding |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal finance & investing | $12–$45 | $5–$22 | Banks, brokers, insurers, fintech |
| Legal & professional services | $10–$35 | $4–$17 | Law firms, B2B services |
| Software & tech | $8–$25 | $3.50–$12 | SaaS, hardware brands, hosting |
| Real estate & property | $8–$20 | $3.50–$10 | Agents, mortgage lenders, platforms |
| Health & fitness | $4–$12 | $1.80–$6 | Supplements, apps, equipment |
| Education & how-to | $3–$10 | $1.50–$5 | Courses, tools, consumer brands |
| Gaming | $2–$8 | $1–$4 | Games, peripherals, energy brands |
| Entertainment & vlogs | $1–$4 | $0.50–$2 | Broad consumer advertising |
Bands assume a mostly Western audience; multiply down for other regions per the table below. A channel can borrow a higher band per-video — a gaming channel’s headset review auctions to tech advertisers, not gaming ones.
CPM by audience country
The same video, priced by who is watching it. Blend these against your Studio audience map to explain your own rate.
| Tier | Countries | Typical CPM |
|---|---|---|
| Premium | Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden | $20–$50+ |
| Core | USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany | $12–$30 |
| Mid | Most of W. Europe, Japan, S. Korea, Gulf states | $4–$12 |
| Growth | Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Indonesia, Philippines | $1–$4 |
| Low | India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt | under $2 |

Six forces that move your CPM
1. Niche advertiser demand — the dominant force, per the table above; it sets the band you operate in.
2. Audience geography — scales the band up or down several-fold; the second-heaviest force and the most improvable one for creators in low-CPM countries.
3. Season — bids build through the year toward Q4’s holiday budgets, then reset in January. A December-to-January CPM drop of a third is normal and channel-agnostic.
4. Advertiser-friendliness — videos limited by content guidelines auction to a smaller bidder pool and clear lower. Clean openings, accurate metadata and careful thumbnails keep the full pool bidding.
5. Ad formats available — videos over 8:00 carry mid-rolls; non-skippable formats bid higher than skippable. Length and placement choices change which auctions run at all.
6. Viewer purchase intent — within any niche, videos answering buying-stage questions (“best X”, “X vs Y”, “is X worth it”) attract commercial bidders that entertainment-stage videos in the same niche never see.
Levers 2, 4, 5 and 6 are actionable this month; lever 1 is a positioning decision; lever 3 you simply plan around — judge income on trailing twelve months, not on January.
