Monetization eligibility checker

Three routes lead into the Partner Program, and creators are often closer on the one they aren’t watching. Enter your numbers once, see every route — then use the route strategies and blocker checklist below.

How the checker reads your numbers

The checker tests your three inputs against every door at once, because creators are frequently closer on a route they were not watching. Each route is all-or-nothing — progress cannot be mixed across them:

Long-form route (full program): 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 public watch hours in the trailing 365 days. The natural path for search- and tutorial-driven channels, where average view durations of 4–6 minutes make the hours arrive at reasonable traffic. The complete anatomy of this requirement — what counts, what does not, and the rolling window — lives on the watch time page.

Shorts route (full program): 1,000 subscribers and 10 million public Shorts views in the trailing 90 days. Built for feed-native creators; the view bar looks enormous but the 90-day window resets fast in both directions — a strong quarter qualifies you, and a quiet one un-qualifies you just as quickly, so apply inside the wave, not after it.

Fan-funding tier (partial): 500 subscribers, three public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours in a year or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days. This switches on memberships, Super Chat/Thanks and shopping — real income for community-strong channels — but not ad revenue sharing, which only the full routes unlock.

Qualified is not approved: the gap the checker can’t see

The checker measures thresholds; the application adds a policy review of your actual content. Four blockers stop otherwise-qualified channels, in rough order of frequency:

  1. Reused or repetitious content — borrowed material without real transformation, or templated mass-production. This is the dominant rejection reason and the one worth auditing before applying; the precise tests reviewers apply are in policies & rejections.
  2. AdSense problems — a previously disabled account, duplicates, or a name that does not match your ID. Fix the AdSense side first; it stalls otherwise-clean applications for weeks.
  3. Active Community Guidelines strikes — applying is blocked until they expire (90 days from issue).
  4. Fake engagement history — purchased subscribers or view exchanges are detectable and endanger the channel itself, not just the application.

What happens after you pass — review timing, AdSense verification, the PIN letter, payment dates — is the subject of the Partner Program guide.

Three channels, three fastest routes

The tutorial channel — 700 subs, 2,600 hours, 40K Shorts views

Clearly a long-form-route channel: 65% of the hours done, subscriber gap of 300. Fastest path: keep publishing search-targeted videos (which close both gaps at once) and add a weekly live session — live watch time counts fully and compounds the hours side. Shorts views here are irrelevant to eligibility; ignore that column.

The clips channel — 4,000 subs, 300 hours, 6.2M Shorts views

A Shorts-route channel pretending otherwise: the watch-hour gap (3,700) would take years at feed-native durations, while the Shorts bar is 62% done inside a rolling 90-day window. Fastest path: push posting frequency through the current momentum and apply the moment the counter crosses 10M — waiting risks the window rolling back under the bar.

The community channel — 520 subs, 3,100 hours, minimal Shorts

Already past the fan-funding tier (500 subs + 3,000 hours): memberships and Supers can be earning now while the push to 1,000 subs and 4,000 hours continues. Creators in this position often leave months of fan income unclaimed because they only watch the full-route counters.

Whichever profile is yours, convert your remaining gap into a concrete plan with the watch time calculator, and pre-audit your catalogue against the policies so the review is a formality.

Questions people ask, answered properly

Which numbers should I enter — where do I find them?
Studio › Earn shows the official eligibility counters for subscribers, 12-month watch hours and 90-day Shorts views. Use those, not Analytics overviews or third-party trackers, which count differently and run ahead or behind.
Can I combine watch hours and Shorts views?
No. Each full route must be met entirely on its own terms and window. 3,000 hours plus 5M Shorts views qualifies for neither full route (though it comfortably clears the fan-funding tier).
How long after qualifying until I’m actually earning?
Application review commonly takes a few days to a month; AdSense identity, address (PIN letter) and tax verification can run in parallel or add weeks; and the first payout waits for a $100 balance. A realistic qualify-to-first-payment span is one to three months — timeline details in the Partner Program guide.
Do I lose monetization if I drop below the thresholds later?
No — thresholds are an entry bar, not a maintenance bar. What continues to apply are the content policies themselves, plus possible review after six months of inactivity.
Why does the checker say eligible but Studio won’t let me apply?
Almost always one of: Studio’s counters lagging a day or two behind reality, an active strike, 2-step verification off, or YPP unavailable in your account’s country settings. The checker tests thresholds; Studio tests everything.
Is the 500-subscriber tier worth applying for?
If your audience is community-shaped, yes — memberships and Supers at a 70% share are real income months before ad revenue arrives, and acceptance into the tier does not affect your later full application.
Do subscribers bought or gained from sub-for-sub count?
They count numerically and cost you everything at review: fake-engagement findings can terminate channels, not just applications. There is no version of purchased growth that survives contact with monetization review.
My subscriber count went down on its own — why?
YouTube removes closed and spam accounts continuously. Small periodic drops are hygiene, not a penalty, and they protect you at review time.
Does the checker send my numbers anywhere?
No — it runs entirely in your browser, like every calculator on this site. Nothing you type is transmitted or stored.
